Meg vs. Time: Facebook Friday

1. Have an Ace hardware near you? Tomorrow is Free Paint Saturday!

2. A little 90's throwback. When bleached yellow hair and striped beanies were cool.

3. Love minions.

4. Ikea.

5. I am confused by some of the things coming back "in." I thought cat sweatshirts were on the permanent "out" list. This is why I can't get into fashion!

6. This got tons of shares, but I actually can't stand to watch it, I thought that guy was going to have a heart attack. Not very nice, Jeff Gordon.

7.I cannot believe I forgot Pi Day yesterday! I am going to have to turn in my nerd card.

And seven will do it for today. Happy Friday!

Meg vs. Dessert: Banana Eclair Graham Icebox Cake Conglomeration

I pinned this:

I made this:

I used banana pudding because John loves banana and we had a ridiculous quantity of banana pudding mixes in the cupboard. I think I put more layers of graham crackers than I was supposed to (ended up using a full box plus some!), and my topping came out a little runny (tough to keep track of it when you are distracted by a crabby baby), but it was still a big hit around here, and we polished of the whole giant pan. Next time I will half the recipe if I am making it just for our little family. Otherwise, I wouldn't change anything!

Meg vs. Myself: Weekly Goals March 11-16

March 4-9
*Do third coat of gel stain on the vanity, (plus 2-3 coats on the back of the cabinet doors). Have everything ready for topcoat next week. I did one coat on the back of the doors, but didn't get to the second.
*Give back the tiling stuff and the Scout stuff!
*Sweep out the garage, clear out in front of the work bench.
*Take pictures of the eves that need replacing and cracks that need repairing before we can paint.
*Make one Pinterest recipe.

This week my sister is out of town so my niece and nephew are staying with us. So on top of the normal grind,  I am giving homeschooling a spin! So far it is making me grateful for lots of very patient and organized teachers growing up =).

March 11-16
*Put one more coat on the back of the cabinet doors.
*Put topcoat on everything but the back of the cabinet doors!
*Keep up with the big kids' homeschool lessons.
*Go outside every day.

Meg vs. Time: Facebook Friday

1. Quality Japanese television.

2. Punny.

3. My friend is posting on her hilarious Apartment Managers Blog again! You won't believe these stories. You can't make this stuff up.

4. Will Ferrell hilarity. Better because it makes fun of Twilight =).

5. Truth.

6. Debunking Mormon Myths.

7. Babies, cute babies! And more on the way! I guess I am at just the right age where it seems like EVERYONE is having babies. They are probably my favorite part of Facebook.

8. The man everyone loves to hate.

I bet he's thinking, "Can't we go back to bashing George W.? That was a lot more fun."

I should follow politics more, but it is hard not to get annoyed and stop reading.

9. Rand Paul got his answer. Again, I should be following politics more. But I really do have a hard time with the horrors that our own government has perpetrated and is perpetrating--under both parties--around the world.

10. Now to finish things off right, a science pun.

Happy Friday!

Meg vs. Myself: Weekly Goals March 3-8

February 25 - March 2
*Try out the gel stain on the bathroom vanity, see if it will work. If it does, do a first coat. If it doesn't, shop for a deal on a vanity. Did two coats!
*Clean out all of the tiling supplies still sitting in the living room/garage, give things back that we borrowed. Started, didn't finish.
*Gather up all of the Boy Scout stuff that has been left in our van at various times and accumulated in the garage. Send it back to the Scouts. Ditto.
*Get some recommendations for a handyman to fix our rotting eves. Asked many people, got one, need to send pictures of the first job.
*Make one Pinterest recipe. Rocked this one. Tried Lion House Sweet and Sour Chicken (I did it in the crock pot, and just added bullion without the water instead of broth, and the sauce was perfectly thick), Crock Pot Beef & Broccoli, Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (realized too late I had a bum batch of yeast, but they were still tasty, if dense), and Carrot Muffins. I would recommend all of these recipes!
*Practice the piano.

March 3-8
*Do third coat of gel stain on the vanity, (plus 2-3 coats on the back of the cabinet doors). Have everything ready for topcoat next week.
*Give back the tiling stuff and the Scout stuff!
*Sweep out the garage, clear out in front of the work bench.
*Take pictures of the eves that need replacing and cracks that need repairing before we can paint.
*Make one Pinterest recipe.

Meg vs. The Bathroom: First coat of gel stain, done!

I finally bit the bullet and slapped a coat of gel stain on that stinkin' vanity. I put the baby in his doorway bouncer, and asked Big Brother to entertain him. Baby screamed for the last five minutes. I guess it was worth it... I am excited about how it will look with two more coats!

Here is a before picture of the side of the vanity. Either the finish bubbled, or the rats in the garage had their way with it... either way, boo! I was afraid we would have to fork out for a replacement.

Here it is after the first coat. It looks worse in the picture than in real life because of the flash, but I think after the rest of the coats it won't be so noticeable.

And this natural light picture gives a better idea of the color it should be when it is all done.

Here's the color palette for the bathroom. Yay! We really are so close to being done, if I could just get my act together!

I am planning on a second coat tomorrow, a third on Monday, and then topcoat at the end of next week, and that should do the trick! More pictures to come. I am generally following this tutorial on staining cabinets with General Finishes Gel Stain.

Meg vs. Time: Facebook Friday

1. New versions of the LDS scriptures! (If you aren't a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, sorry if this interests you not at all.)

You can see side-by-side comparisons to the changes made to the headings in the Doctrine and Covenants here. The introduction to Official Declaration 2 is a pleasant surprise!

2. If Downton Abbey Season 3 were on Facebook... (warning, spoiler alert if you haven't seen them all!)

3. Popcorn/menopause humor. Can't beat that.

4. More T-Rex humor.

5. March Madness will be extra colorful this year. Yikes.

6. This ever happen to you? The banes of technology.

7. You go, Josh Groban. Both literally and figuratively.

8. I would only rent this place if the painting came with it.

9. I am hooked on Dandy Giveaway! In the last several months I won a wall stencil and a Robby Wash Ball, and I am dying to win some of these Little Green Food Pouches, since we will be starting solids with Baby Brother in the next couple of weeks!

10. We used to have a dog just like that. Shame we didn't have that rug! RIP Rags the dog. You would have liked this joke.

Happy Friday!
